I remember this poem. I went to visit my Grandparents in Minnesota one summer and opened a book of poems grandpa had on the table. He always has some good stack of literature around. I remember I couldn't sleep and went in to read something and I found this poem that made me think of my other grandpa. I couldn't help it. I had to get out a piece of paper and write it all down before I could go to sleep. I might have even memorized it. Because it just made so much sense to me. it was Grandpa to me. I still have it but I never gave it to him. I was going to frame it or make it into some sort of card but instead here it is Gramps.
The thing about Grandpa is he is adventurous. i LOVED all the fun times we had with him and Grams. They took us on so many fun camping trips growing up. And Grandpa would take us grandchildren for flying trips over saguaro lake for really special adventures. The story i remember most is Grandpa telling me how he had found a big peice of gold when he was a boy. Then he saw a man who came up to him and told him to give it to him which he did being a boy and thinking that would be the best thing to do I guess. I always kind of wondered if that is why he was always mining for gold. When we went camping he was always doing something. If it was by a creek, he was mining. If it was by the water he was boating and fishing and lucky us we all got to go with. but anway back to the poem. I liked it the best because it wasn't the finding the gold that mattered most it was the quest. I think sometimes even though we think it would be so fun to have everything we ever wanted but then maybe that's not the point. jUst my random thought. But thanks Grandpa for always doing such neat things with us. You made being a grandpa totally exciting! We love you lots, the beaches.
