Note to Son

A few months ago a political convention was held in our area. My son came home from school and started putting on a suit and tie. He told me where the convention was, minus any details. "Can you bring me here Mom? I need to be there at 7 p.m. sharp," was all he said. While I continued to try to figure out why he was going to a hotel and why he was scrambling around for clothes, little by little he let out his frustrations. There is so much going on with politics, he started to explain, "Why can't we make a difference? Why is everything so difficult to get passed? What about single Mom's like you, why can't things be easier? What can we do in our society? What can we do, Mom?" I wasn't getting the facts about the attire and scram to get out the door though. Why are you dressed up was all I could think about while he poured out his heart frantically. Then finally he asked, "Do I look around your age with this suit on?" Which proceeded a Mom kind of needs to know what is up moment. He further explained that he would be casual about it, sneak in, sit at one of the round tables and start asking some of these politicians what it is they are doing and how this can all get fixed (you know it is that easy right?). He tried to convince me he could pull off 25 and professional. I talked him out of the convention after he told me he would not show up with his Mom, it might look him look too young. I'm not sure Christian and I have too differing of opinions because I stopped aging at 29, we are just kind of at opposite ends these days.

Knowing some of the amazing kids at Christian's school, I am sure my son is only one of many kids that would like to make a difference. That is what kids go to school to learn about right? We educate them so they can go out into the world to do something better than when they started? But, will you please help my son? All you have to do give this world a shot. Better yet, click here, and visit Kelly Fenton's page, to find out more about supporting a wonderful woman and example in our community. Christian and I were able to meet this local Representative from the House of Reps for a one on one to learn about what Christian could do to help. She found out about his story from a friend and insisted on meeting at a coffee shop. He will be helping her campaign this summer and could use your support. Maybe you could just learn, like I am, about what is going on in our own backyard or something. I know I am clueless for the most part, but I do not doubt the world is a better place because of this woman's big heart and desire to serve. I am also thankful for those that go out and try to learn how to make things better for whatever reason, one of which just so happens to be my son. Thank you Kelly for your time and commitment to our country and for taking time out for us in your busy day!!

(Note to son: you look 15, not 25, so don't even try to be a sneaky politician again. Also, if you age I do and I am not really ready for that yet! Can you try to stop growing?)
