For our highlights this year I dug through the kid's journal entries for 2014. These kids are hilarious. I also just wanted to say that we opted out of a Christmas letter, just because we had other pressing matters on the home front. We are back to normal after my lovely sister, Lisa's, beautiful wedding!! It was a wonderful time of year for a wonderful couple!! And back to life as usual, minus a trusty roommate we miss!
Christian: Age 14
"The way I make decisions is I flip a coin. If I flip it and say, "let's try that again," it tells me that I don't like that choice. It works for everything, Mom." Oh my goodness Christian, if only I had that luxury!!
"I stand in front of the mirror for five minutes making funny faces at myself every morning. I bet you do it too, it's just human nature."
"The tree of tomorrow has been hit by a power line."
Bear-raptor is a hybrid human-animal that hops around on all fours. It also screeches like a pterodactyl. It also tickles little children, namely Katie and Abby. It is also five foot' eight inches. Guess who?
Isabelle: 12
Isabelle told the kids on the bus that they could not sit next to her because of her imaginary friend, Fred. Now she has the seat to herself. Christian relayed to me after school while Isabelle stood smiling.
Isabelle said, "Why do you want to be a skateboarder? Don't you know everyone always gets hurt when they do that?"
Christian replied,"Well I already have the cool clothes and stuff, so I just thought I should." After school conversation by my two teenagers. Also noted, Christian got his first pair of vans this year (so it makes sense).

Thank you for the songs you sing, the soft and sweet melodies.
Your eyes shine like stars, your heart big and warm.

Catherine (Katie): 9
Abigail often goes to sleep in my room where I read her books at night, then I transfer. One night I was busy working on something and Abigail climbed in bed anyway without me noticing. I came in and found Katie had replaced my spot with her brand new pink glitter scripture bag and had been reading Abigail the scriptures as she fell asleep.
Katie: "Guess what my favorite song is?"
Mom: "What?"
Katie: "Deck the Halls and 'Tis the Season. I even sing them all year long in my head."
Friend: "Katie, that isn't very nice. You took my place on the swing set."
Katie: "That's okay. You can always find something to be happy about. Just find something else to do instead."
Abigail (Abby): 6
Abigail was crouching down on the ground, hopping around the house on all four limbs. "What are you doing?" Her Mom asked. Abigail said, "Hopping, do you want to do it too? All you have to do is stand like a frog and start running like a cheetah." Then off she went hopping all over the house as fast as she could.
Abigail and Katie got a new box of crayons to color with. Their mother came in the room and saw that all the crayons had been emptied out of the box. She looked at them and noticed the paper had been torn off and each was broken exactly in half. Then Abby saw her Mom looking at the two girls and said,
"I get the bottoms and Katie gets the tops."
Abby's Mom, "You shouldn't do that. You are ruining all the crayons."
Abby said, "Why not? Did you rent them? Do we have to give them back?"
Abby's Mom said, "No Abby, you can't rent crayons."
Abby said, "Why not? You can't rent them like cars for vacations?"
Abigail: "I want to be a princess when I grow up. Then I can be the waitress of my own house, like you Mama."
Well that is our lovely year in kid language. I am so thankful to be the mother of these four amazing kids. They each have their own unique way of doing things and yet it all works out somehow. I am so glad these kids are going to have their sibling memories to laugh over for the rest of their lives. Families are the best!! Happy New Year!! Christina
